10 Incredible Recent RPGs That Surprised EVERYONE

7. Vampire Survivors

At a glance, Vampire Survivors looks like just another retro bullet shooter.

However, Poncle's revolutionary title is classified as a a bullet heaven since players automatically blast at a never-ending swarm of monsters, not the other way around. Slaying enemies help you upgrade weapons and items, allowing you to hold your own as the horde escalates in numbers and ferocity.

Though the gameplay is extremely simple, it's deceptively addictive. Just when you feel like you've had your fill, you may discover the perfect combination of upgrades, offering a whole new way to annihilate the creatures of the night. There are many characters to unlock, each with their own special skills, so you feel like trying them all to see what they bring to the table.

Just when you feel like you've experienced everything, the developers churn out another DLC, each with a plethora of weapons, playable characters, stages, and enemies.

Not only has the indie shooter received tremendous success, it's inspired similar bullet heavens, like 20 Minutes to Dawn and Brotato. And despite the lack of character development or plot, there's serious discussion about a film adaptation.

Based on the pixelated graphics and primitive gameplay, nobody would've expected Vampire Survivors to take the world by storm.
