10 Incredible Video Game Intros (That Made You Stop Playing The Second Time Around)
9. My Ancestors Are Smiling At Me, Imperials - The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Skyrim's intro is one of the most famous in gaming history. Its impact on the industry has been so large that even those who haven't played the game recognize it from thousands of highly quotable memes.
The cart full of prisoners went viral ever since it first rolled into Helgen, and yet the number one thing most veteran Skyrim players do when starting a new playthrough… is find a mod that omits this section entirely.
Despite the fact that the Skyrim intro is so memorable and iconic, once you experience it, it's just not fun.
The cart sequence is a good ten minutes of just... looking around, with no means of interacting with the world, and you can't reload or even interact with the game's settings until it plays out. Afterwards, there's even more waiting as the execution scene drags on and on (that one guy asking to speed it up by volunteering to be killed first is actually just making it longer), and then you have another twenty minutes of an incredibly linear tutorial left.
