2025's Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 received critical acclaim due to its original Belle Epoque setting, stunning visuals, and a genuinely challenging and action-packed combat system.

The game’s strongest element is definitely its story, and its intro capitalizes on it by adding a ton of story-heavy cutscenes during its first couple of hours. The exposition detailing Clair Obscur's strange world and explaining the mystery surrounding its main villain, the Paintress, is enough to capture your interest and let you finish the tutorial section without getting bogged down by those linear tutorial sections.

Once you know the story though, these cutscenes are obviously not as fun.

When all the twists and interesting concepts have been established, and when you’re already well-acquainted with all the characters that are being carefully introduced at the start, the game’s opening feels really weak. The cutscenes themselves become quite static, and it really highlights just how much worse the tutorial sections are.

It takes a lot of patience to get it through the intro again, which is probably why a lot of people just don’t feel like playing the game a second time.
