10 Incredible Video Games That Came From Terrible Movies
1. The Mummy: Demastered
No one will believe me. I know.
A The Mummy game.
It's almost like a bad joke.
However, the only sad thing is that The Mummy's 2017 reboot was so catastrophic and off-putting, it made 99% of gamers regard anything close to a "tie-in" as utter trash.
And that could not be further from the truth.
The Mummy: Demastered is hands down, one of the best Metroidvanias of the generation, right next to Metroid: Samus Returns and Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
Its combat is tight, flashy and responsive, its animations robust and its synthwave soundtrack pulsating alongside. If you die you'll leave a Bloodborne-style animated corpse keeping your weapons, so even retrieving them is a neat challenge before moving on.
The Mummy: Demastered always keeps you abreast of where to go next, doles out meaningful character upgrades and avoids all the pitfalls of "franchise-building" that dogged the movie.
It's simpy a time-tested game formula done to perfection by a veteran team of indie developers who knew exactly what would work.
