9. King's Field I-III
Long before FromSoftware was synonymous with Bloodborne and Elden Ring, the company worked on a PSOne title called King's Field.
It looks ancient by today's standards, but King's Field was a huge deal since the 1994 medieval fantasy was among the first 3D RPGs ever, predating Final Fantasy VII. More importantly, its mechanics were incorporated into FromSoftware's other works, including Shadow Tower and Demon's Souls.
King's Field was considered a rousing success, though some criticised its punishing difficulty. (No surprise there.) Despite only being released in Japan, the two follow-ups received a worldwide release on the PSOne and were received positively.
Just as it looked like King's Field was finding its stride, the fourth entry was shredded by critics, killing the saga then and there. Once the studio's other IPs took off, FromSoftware had no interest in revisiting the decades-old brand.
Though it's difficult to get locate the first two sequels, it's virtually impossible to find the one that started it all, since the original was never available outside of Japan. Considering how much of a trailblazer King's Field is, it's a huge pity how so few have played them.
