10 Incredibly Rare Video Game Collectors Editions
4. Personalised Video Game! - Birthday Mania
Back in the heady days of Atari's global video game dominance, everyone and anyone was trying to cash in on this gaming phenomenon, and while the library of the 2600 reads less like a hit list and more like a....well s**t list, there are more than a handful of curious that collectors to this day are desperately seeking.
As cart production could be done independently, a myriad of games only released with a handful of copies making them a much sought-after commodity. However, of all of them, Birthday Mania caught my eye for it's premise alone, namely that the game's designer Anthony Tokar personalized each and every copy!
That's right you could pay Mr. Tokar to include your name on the title screen of the game, making it a perfect gift for the lucky soul you were buying it for, and in turn, making every single version a unique collectors edition in it's own right!
It's not clear how much such a cart would go for as there's never actually been a listed sale of them anywhere! The only figure that's been bandied around is that an offer of six thousand dollars was made to an owner but it's never been confirmed that this was accepted.
