10 Industry-Defining Video Games That Are Nowhere To Be Seen
3. Crash Bandicoot
The Crash games were revolutionary platforming games for the time. A simple concept - get him to the end of the level and collect things along the way - executed to perfection. The controls were a bit wonky at times, but the levels were sprawling and the obstacles were challenging. It may be simple, but it worked, and hey, that's pretty much the exact formula the Mario games followed, and it worked wonders for them, too.
There were also a few spin-offs released including Crash Team Racing and Crash Bash, but none performed as well as the originals. More recently, a couple of mobile titles have seen the light of day, but expectedly met with mixed reviews.
Unlike Jak, this series did make the jump from the PS2 and Xbox era to the next console generation. A few sequels were released for Xbox 360, with the most recent being Mind Over Mutant in 2008. Sadly though, they didn't quite have the charm of the originals and popularity slowly waned. Naughty Dog has reportedly been interested in revisiting the series, so for now we'll have to wait and see.
