What's a Souls game without a grotesquely oversized weapon??

Since video games were young developers have been nestled in things for us players to find if we took the time and experimented enough.

From the first RPGs and FPS' to the modern day, the hidden weapon has been something that we power-hungry players have always sought after. Yes, I know I can't wield all of these at the same time but I want them all, thank you...

The thing about open worlds in video games is that it gives developers so much more room to come up with all kinds of stuff that not every players is going to experience the same, if at all. Tucked away in corners, caves or out to sea are some truly wild things to experience. If you're lucky your exploration will pay off and you'll come away with some pretty awesome loot.

A good list of weapons to choose from can make or break a game but even a game with a stellar armoury needs a bit of livening up now and then. Better bust out the special weapons then.

In this list we'll be looking at some insane weapons - be they wicked or weird - that are off the beaten path in some of the industry's biggest open world games.

When Skyrim released in 2011 it instantly became one of gaming’s most beloved open worlds by being unbelievably deep. Countless questlines set us off into the far reaches of the land, searching for adventure and stories to tell our friends about scraps with the Ice Giant or the crazy loot we found.

Depending on how you played the game depended on what you might find.

The Windshear sword can only be obtained if you take on the Hail Sithis! quest, which means if you elect to destroy the Dark Brotherhood then you won’t get a chance to wield it. The quest allows you to board the ship The Katariah. By climbing the boat and walking along its bowstrip, you can find the Windshear lodged into the wood.

The Windshear is a single-handed weapon but in order to make full use of it you should be unequipped in the other hand so you can utilise its bash skill.

What makes the Windshear so special? It can stun any enemy on either of its two swings for a 10th of a second, from lowly skeletons to even dragons. Thus, if you’re bold and swift enough, the Windshear can get you through most any battle the game has to offer.

Time to go back and show that Ice Giant what for…
