8. Joysticks With Unnecessary Buttons
What the heck was this about? Now, don't get me wrong, I know these were made for multiple formats - for instance the joystick on the right hand side of the above picture might have worked with a Commodore 64, an Atari ST and an Amiga 500... but it has seven buttons! No computer game in the '80s required seven buttons! The joystick on the left hand side of the image (the one with a mere one button) would suffice for pretty much any given game! The two-buttoned beast in the middle was considered to be 'a bit flash' and thats saying something. Frankly, the best joysticks were the simple one and two-buttoned efforts that did the job required with minimal fuss. So the models with five, six and seven buttons were pretty much unnecessary on 99% of occasions.
