3. Experiencing The Horrors Of Zombies (And Terrible Voice Acting)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XyghKl72R0 Before Resident Evil came along in 1996, the zombie had faded away from the upper echelons of popular culture. Capcom's influential survival-horror series brought the flesh-chomping ghouls back into the limelight and they haven't really left it since. Resident Evil had several defining features: tank controls, cryptic puzzles, pre-rendered backgrounds, zombies (obviously) and of course - awful, awful voice acting. Barry's fascinatingly bad delivery of questionable lines such as "you almost became a Jill sandwich" in the first game has become an established meme in gaming that just refuses to die. Later RE games on the PS1 didn't fare much better in terms of voice acting, but they were still incredible with 2 being arguably the best entry in the series to date. The faults of the first Resident Evil games didn't stop them from becoming massively popular. After all, it's rare even now for games to offer both comedy gold and horror in equal measure.

When I'm not playing games, I'm probably either writing about them somewhere or singing stupid songs inspired by them. Or eating pizza.
