10 More Video Games Cancelled For Ridiculous Reasons
2. Microsoft Felt Expectations Were Too High - Scalebound
PlatinumGames' action-RPG Scalebound was first announced at E3 2014 to a rapturous response, seeming to basically deliver Devil May Cry with dragons.
Though word on the game was suspiciously quiet in the years that followed, Scalebound's cancellation in early 2017 still came as a huge shock to the industry.
Considering that the game seemed to be relatively far along in development in the few gameplay snippets released to the public, it was tough to imagine how things could've gone so wrong that the game was cancelled entirely.
Some months later, Xbox head Phil Spencer suggested the game had been cancelled because Microsoft came to realise it couldn't even begin to live up to fan expectations.
He freely admitted Scalebound was revealed too soon, while PlatinumGames studio head Atsushi Inaba felt that the cancellation was a result of both sides failing to deliver on their promises.
Scalebound's cancellation was so baffling to players that many remain convinced the game could one day be reintroduced, especially as Inaba has confirmed he'd love to return to it.
