10 Most Disappointing Games Of The Decade (So Far)
5. Redfall
Some might insist that Redfall can hardly be declared disappointing given the tidal wave of skepticism leading up to its release, but at the end of the day, it's still a game from Dishonored and Prey developer Arkane, whose prestige speaks for itself.
On paper there was plenty reason to believe that an open-world first-person shooter with co-op mulitplayer functionality would be an ambitious step up for the team, but when reports emerged post-release that many developers at Arkane didn't actually want to make the game, it was hardly a surprise.
A thunderously soulless offering even for the basement-low standards of live service fare, Redfall is a game with so desperately little going for it.
The gunplay doesn't feel good, its world is barren, the story and characterisation are instantly forgettable, and it launched with performance issues out the wazoo.
The response from critics and players alike was poor enough that Microsoft actually apologised for the end product just two days after launch, by which point the player-base was already shedding at a geometric rate.
There was no perverse joy to be taken in Redfall's failure, just sadness that a fantastic developer got stuck spending a few years peddling Live Service Slop.
Things are looking up, though, as Arkane's next game is a single-player title based on Marvel's Blade.
