10 Most Disappointing Video Games Of 2022

So The Callisto Protocol is a huge disappointment, huh?

2022 has been an excellent year for video games. God of War: Ragnarok, Elden Ring, Immortality; there has been a wide array of brilliant games from a bunch of different genres that have dropped over the last twelve months.

However, there are still some who view 2022 as a disappointing year. That could be because while there has been no shortage of amazing titles to jump into, there have been just as many that have disappointed. Indeed, the candidates for this year's most disappointing list have been plentiful, with major AAA releases, long-awaited new IP and indie darlings all failing to deliver on their promises.

Of course, that doesn't mean all the following games are bad. In fact, some are still recommendable despite their flaws, but there's no denying that they didn't hit the lofty heights that fans and critics expected from them.

On the other hand, some picks are straight up terrible with no redeeming features whatsoever. These are the titles you'll definitely see crossover with our worst of 2022 list.

So, from dodgy reboots to bloated sequels, these are the biggest disappointments of the year.

10. Saints Row

Some gamers may tell you that Saints Row wasn't a disappointment, because everyone expected it to be bad to begin with. While yes, there was a vocal section of the playerbase that wrote the title off as soon as it was announced, so offputting was the humour and new aesthetic, the initial trailers looked promising enough. The writing and outdated stabs at hipster culture may not have impressed, but the open-world anarchy still looked like a lot of fun, as did the extensive customisation options.

It's a testament to just how bad the eventual game was, then, that it managed to disappoint even players who only expected brainless anarchy. That's because Saints Row is not just an underwhelming game, it's a truly turgid one. Playing like a 5/10 open-world actioner from 2009, everything about this reboot feels archaic, from the clumsy combat, to the mundane mission objectives to the insulting graphics and technical hiccups.

If you told someone this was a Duke Nukem Forever situation where the game started development a decade ago, they'd probably believe you. Even as an old-school throwback though, the game doesn't work because the glitches and insulting A.I. made it virtually unplayable at launch.

Whether you're a die-hard fan or an intrigued newcomer, Saints Row has nothing to offer anyone.
