10 Most Iconic Moments From Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

5. Learning What A Ghillie Suit Is

Another excellent SAS mission.

This time in the form of wetwork: code for government sanctioned assassination by military or special ops forces. You get to play as the venerable Captain Price when he was still just a Lieutenant and see the mentor that made the man you call Sir/Sargent as Soap. This comes in the shape of formidable yet dry Scottish marksman Captain MacMillan.

You team up with MacMillan to perform simultaneous sniper kills on pairs of enemies and are funnelled through the level slowly and carefully. In typical frantic versus calm contrasting game play styles, you're even ordered not to storm a building containing four soldiers and have to simply walk on by. MacMillan constantly reminds you of the dangers of being caught and radiation poisoning awaits those to try and explore too much of the map.

Not only did Infinity Ward wow us with the Ghillie suits and silent sniping work early on, but they also take the chance to remind us that nuclear explosions are for life, not just coup d'etat. Players wander round the abandoned town of Pripiyat, site of the Cherynobyl power plant disaster in 1986 and explore a post-apocalyptic setting before it got all popular and overused in gaming. It is quiet, haunting and in many ways, beautiful.
