10 Most Memorable Video Game Bosses Of All Time

1. GLaDOS (Portal)

Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System. Doesn't that sound like the least threatening video game boss you could possibly dream up? Seriously, the makers of Portal could've named the primary antagonist Maxwell's Squishy Jelly Fingers and instilled more fear into players.

But that's part of what makes GLaDOS an almost impossibly perfect villain. Everything about her "personality" - the monotone voice, the rational disposition, the calculated cruelty - keeps players on edge the whole time. Even though she seems so lifeless, there's an unsettling, vengeful temperament lurking underneath it all.

Also, let's not forget that GLaDOS is perfectly fine with wiping every last bit of humanity from her system to make her a more dominant foe. Because one thing GLaDOS will not do is die.

That's not some ego-trip thing, either. That's just a straight-up fact. Rather than risk death for some misguided sense of pride, GLaDOS will call it quits when things look out of favor. She doesn't say, "I'm going to defeat this damn orphan even if it means we both have to die." She says, "Hey orphan, sorry for all the hassle. You're too good. I'm out."

Brilliant.
