10 Most Memorable Video Game Bosses Of All Time
3. Revolver Ocelot (Metal Gear Solid)
Metal Gear just gets villains. The series has produced a huge roster of complex, unique, intensely interesting bad guys that had immeasurable depth to each gameplay experience. But of all the fascinating miscreants in the Metal Gear universe, Revolver Ocelot stands head-and-shoulders above the rest.
Although Ocelot may appear to be nothing more than an infuriating egotist with an odd cowboy obsession, all it takes is one impassioned speech in Metal Gear Solid to reveal that his worldview isn't self-centred. It's actually a strangely beautiful - if sadistic - slant on how to bring out the best in humanity.
The expert gunslinger wanted to create an enormous faction of mercenaries in order to increase the tension and conflict in the world, which he felt had become hopelessly soft and complacent. In his eyes, the battlefield is where people learn the most about themselves, and it's also the only place bravery can emerge.
You certainly don't have to agree with his ideals, but at least he has strong, philosophical convictions that go beyond the usual bad guy routine of "Uh... I like violence? Now die!"
Also, his gun battles in the Metal Gear Solid franchise proved to be some of the most entertaining bits of gameplay found in any action-adventure series.
