10 Most Overrated Video Games Of 2018
4. Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom
2013's Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is arguably one of the best JRPGs of the decade (so far), so expectations were high for Level-5's long-awaited follow-up.
This one really hurts, guys.
Though Ni No Kuni II certainly looks pretty and delivers a functional experience, it also feels like a sure step down from the depth and artistry of its predecessor.
Right out of the gate the game feels decidedly cheaper with its lack of glossy cut-scenes and dearth of voice acting (though, to be honest, even the voice acting on offer isn't great).
The plot is meanwhile utter nonsense - not exactly a new trick for the genre - and naive protagonist Evan can't hold a candle to the previous game's Oliver.
What really sinks Revenant Kingdom, however, is the abundance of forced "side content", where story progression is gated off until you recruit a set number of citizens through a series of rote, tedious fetch quests.
At least the game is incredibly easy, but compared to what came before, it's also a depressingly low-effort follow-up.
