10 Most Promising New Video Game IPs Coming In 2016

9. Unravel (PC, PS4, XBO)

Twee 2D platformers are in plentiful supply these days, with each year seemingly having one major standout that indie-loving gamers flock to. In 2014 it was Child of Light, in 2015 it was Ori and the Blind Forest, and in 2016 it could well be Unravel. The game casts you as an anthropomorphic piece of cotton yarn called Yarny (not the most original moniker, but you can't complain if you ever owned a white-furred pet called Snowy or Snowball). As Yarny, you use your seemingly endless trail of cotton to trampoline, ninja-rope and grappling-hook your way through idyllic and pretty levels, solving increasingly challenging physics-based puzzles. Unravel is the kind of game that's designed to warm your soul even as boulders fall onto your head and bridges crumble beneath your feet. The meticulously lovely presentation and mesmerising orchestral score will ensure this turns into your new 'happy place' after a particularly rough day's work saving the world in every other game.
