10 Most Shocking Moments In Mortal Kombat History
1. Liu Kang Becomes A God
Many of the characters in Mortal Kombat mythos are set in stone. Johnny Cage is the cocky action hero. Sonya Blade is the no-nonsense soldier. Shao Kahn is a jerk. No matter how much the story diverges over the years, those constants remain.
But near the end of Mortal Kombat 11, the story went in a direction nobody saw coming. Realising that Kronika has defeated Raiden in countless timelines, the thunder god believes victory is only possible if he does something that's never been done before. In each timeline, Kronika forced Raiden to kill Liu Kang.
Based on this, Raiden deduces that the only way to defeat the malevolent Titan is to endow Earthrealm's champion with all his godhood. As the world's heroes are on the verge of defeat, Raiden transfers his might to Liu Kang, transforming him into The God of Fire and Lightning.
After the former monk defeats Kronika, Liu Kang is no longer a god; he is The God since he is responsible for reshaping the entire multiverse. It's hard to say where the Mortal Kombat franchise will go from here but NetherRealm Studios will have great difficulty topping his moment.
