10 Overlooked Movie Licensed Games (That Were Actually Awesome)
1. The Chronicles Of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay
From Starbreeze studios, creators of the similarly overlooked shooter The Darkness, Escape From Butcher Bay worked as a prequel to the original Pitch Black, covering one giant prison break as the titular Riddick attempted to, well, escape from Butcher Bay.
Blending first-person stealth elements with visceral brawling (a combo that seems quite safe now, but was rarely being done at the time), the licensed game would have been an enjoyable and intense romp whether it was associated with a popular movie or not.
Published in part by Tigon Studios, a company actually founded by Vin Diesel himself, Butcher Bay is one of the only entries on this list where a main creative force of the movie itself had a role in the game's development, more than just lending their likeness or voice.
As a result, it all genuinely felt like an attempt to gain some respect for movie-licensed games, showing the world that they can be something more than rushed products that capitalise on their cinematic successors - and in every respect, the developers managed to pull it off.
