9. Uncharted 2's Train Scene

Speaking of playing out action movie set pieces, it's well documented that developer Naughty Dog like to think big, and then program even bigger. By thinking of set-pieces first and then plot second, it allowed the second and third Uncharted games to be rollicking rides through action-cinema scenes we'd previously thought unplayable.

For this level though you're genuinely playing on a moving train, whose physics react with the world around it, as the general environment changes and various landmarks come into view - not to mention you can crash in and out of all the windows, do battle on the roof or take cover behind the seats for a shootout.

With the train finally careening off the rails after going from a luscious jungle to a precarious arctic mountain-range, the sheer variety in these locales along with you utilising all your abilities as Nathan Drake makes this one of the best parts of the whole trilogy.
