10 Pro Evolution Soccer Legends Who Flopped In Real Life

1. Tijani Babangida

Tijani Babangida was one of the first breakout stars of the Pro Evolution Soccer franchise on PlayStation 2.

An explosive right winger and forward by trade, Babangida was the jewel in the crown for both Ajax and Nigeria on the first two editions of the game.

Much of that was down to his pace - the Nigerian boasted a 96 acceleration and a 99 rating for speed. With those kinds of attributes to play with, it was just a case of getting Babangida on the ball and making a beeline for the opposition’s goal.

Given his imperious form on the game, a career at the very top of the game looked inevitable.

But despite impressive spells as a teenager at Roda JC in Holland and with Ajax in the years that followed Babangida’s star soon began to fade.

A bout of malaria coupled with a major dip in form and behind-the-scenes turmoil at Ajax soon saw him deemed surplus to requirements at the Amsterdam club.

Babangida’s last game for Ajax came in 2003, but he remained on the club’s books for a further three years, embarking on a series of underwhelming loan moves before one final swansong in China.

A disappointing end for one of fastest players in the history of PES.
