10 Reasons The Last Of Us Is STILL The Best Video Game Of All Time

1. Left Behind DLC

Perhaps the perfect companion to the base game, Left Behind offered fans the chance to revisit Ellie's past life with friend Riley, long before her journey with Joel.

Left Behind's minimal combat encounters (though they are present) are not the focal point of its approximate 3 hour runtime. Instead, Ellie's budding relationship with fellow survivor, Riley, takes centre stage, and provides insight into how Ellie's 'normal' is far from our own.

Though the friendship between the DLC's two protagonists is clearly strong, with emphasis on both characters immense strength under such horrific times, the underlying tones of romance are subtle, if instrumental.

Ellie's first overwhelming sense of loss is seen here, as the girls are bitten by the infected. Expecting to die alongside each other, the DLC's plot is more than enough to make the player believe both characters are willing to do so, and after the pair share a kiss, the friendship between them is transformed into something more. Ellie is left waiting for her turn when the base game begins.

Left Behind is marketed as an optional addition to the Last of Us' tale, yet the sequel looks set to explore themes that Left Behind introduced in finer detail.
