10 Reasons The PS4.5 Is Sony's Biggest Mistake This Generation

If rumours and leaks are to believed, Sony will be releasing a brand new console before the end of the year. Codenamed Neo (dubbed the 4.5 or the 4K online), Sony's new machine is set to be a stopgap release while players wait for the inevitable PS5. Not quite a major step up, but not an upgrade as inconsequential as a slim edition of the original console, the 4.5 offers a rather peculiar option that console gamers have never experienced before - and it's going to be the biggest mistake Sony has made in years.

The idea of introducing a new console that upgrades and improves the horsepower of the original system isn't exactly a bad idea in itself, however the timing of this release couldn't have been worse. It hasn't even been three years since the original PS4 hit store shelves, and as a result it's hard to not empathise with early adopters or even recent buyers who feel short-changed by the idea.

While incremental updates might be popular for PC owners, consoles come with a certain long-term expectation, an ease of use and a guarantee that you've invested in something for many years to come.
