10 Recent Failed Video Games That Became Cult Classics
6. Full Throttle (1995/2017)
Cult classics like Day of the Tentacle have become synonymous with the last days of LucasArts, but there are plenty of other names that also deserve more recognition. Perhaps no game has been unfairly left on the sidelines more often than Full Throttle.
Originally released as Tim Schafer's first game as a lead developer, the game featured voice acting from the likes of Mark Hamill and Hamilton Camp, and its greasy, grungy aesthetics made it one of the classic point-and-click adventures from the 1990s.
In 2017, following the likes of Day of the Tentacle and Grim Fandango, Full Throttle was given the remastering treatment. However, despite an overhaul to the graphics and the option to play either the original or contemporary version, the game failed to match the impact of those other classic titles and faded back into obscurity again.
Nevertheless, just like with the original, the game has been preserved by its loyal fanbase. The series received its first push on to the mobile world with an iOS port, and further releases even followed right up to the Xbox One in October 2020.
