10 Resident Evil Games - Ranked From Worst To Best
3. Resident Evil 2
Everything about Resident Evil 2 was an improvement on
the original. The story was grander, the stakes were higher, and the
environments still felt suffocating and oppressive despite their increased size.
Sure, Resident Evil 2 was essentially just perfecting an already winning formula, but it managed to bring a plethora of new ideas to the table, more
than justifying its own existence in the process.
In the game, you play as Leon S. Kennedy – a fledgling cop arriving in Raccoon City for his first day on the job, and Claire Redfield – a college student searching desperately for her missing brother, Chris. Quickly separated, the pair are forced to fend for themselves in a city positively teeming with the undead, in which the vast majority of the city’s law enforcement have been savagely murdered, and the remaining population is soon to follow.
Released back in 1998, Resident Evil 2 won’t ever be considered as important as the first game, but it was certainly the best sequel anyone could have asked for at the time. It was bigger, prettier and more intense; most of the graphical limitations of the first game were overcome, and even the acting felt much improved. To this day, the game is still considered an absolute standout of the genre, not to mention one of the finest games of its generation, and that’s unlikely to change anytime soon.
