10 'Revolutionary' Gaming Features That Already Happened 20 Years Ago
5. Virtual Reality
If the hype machine is to be believed, we are on the cusp of the next great revolution in gaming, as the likes of the Oculus Rift and Sony's Project Morpheus represent what may be enormous steps into the virtual reality domain. Both are set for release at some point in 2016 and both are trying to sell themselves as providing the first taste of virtual reality that gamers can experience. But, hang on a minute... These fancy new headsets don't represent gaming's first foray into VR, as Nintendo were trying their hand at it with the Virtual Boy way back in 1995. Designed by Gunpei Yokoi, of Metroid and Game Boy fame, the console was marketed as a virtual reality headset and was intended to provide gamers with a completely immersive experience. However, Nintendo's insistence on using the cheapest possible components led to a deflating experience, especially on the graphical level. Reports of motion sickness experienced by repeat users didn't help the cause and the console ended up being one of the biggest flops in the history of Nintendo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyVAp0tOk5A
