10 Ridiculous Ways Adverts Were Built Into Video Games

2. Biker Mice From Mars Really Wants You To Eat Snickers

If there's one thing you can say about Biker Mice From Mars, it's that it does what it says on the box. You play as mice, who ride bikes, and are from Mars. So far, so good. But what they didn't put on the box was the fact that you would be subject to Snickers advertisements at every conceivable opportunity.

Gigantic Snickers logos were strewn across race tracks. Characters held Snickers bars in strong, heroic poses, while telling players that "even winners need something to satisfy their hunger". It was difficult to play the game for more than a minute or two without encountering some sort of subliminal - or not-so subliminal - Snickers messaging.

Thankfully, this tie-in was only in the PAL version of the game, so audiences in other regions were able to play while remaining unfettered by this shameless corporate shilling. Also, side note: why not Mars, Milky Way, or Galaxy? Why Snickers? These biker mice are from space, are they not? They're the Biker Mice From Mars. MARS.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
