10 Scummiest Moves Made By Video Game Publishers
1. Riot Games Silencing People Who'd Be Sexual Harassed
It's fair
to say that League of Legends is one of the biggest games on PC. Going strong
for eleven years and with a cast of diverse and fun characters that reach over
100 in number. However, behind the scenes Riot wasn’t the healthiest place to
work.
Riot had been described as a "Boys Club" by many but it clearly went much deeper than that. People who had previously worked for the company talked about some of the higher-ups acting inappropriately towards female staff.
Instead of resolving this issue, the company offered settlements to these victims to keep them quiet. Something they couldn't refuse as their contact prevented them from not taking these settlements. Details about this are vague but it seems that it was a common thing that the higher-ups at Riot were prepared for.
This all came up when the employees staged a mass walkout in protest of all the sexual harassment that had been quietly pushed under the rug. This was the biggest studio walkout in gaming history and got the attention it needed.
Something that shouldn't be happening anywhere. Let alone at the workplace.
