Rome? Early Britain? Japan? Where should Ubisoft take us next after Valhalla?

The Assassin's Creed franchise has certainly had its ups and downs, but fans of the series always get excited about the prospect of a new historical period to explore. By taking on different settings, this property has been able to educate and explore many interesting cultures in the guise of gameplay. With Valhalla proving that there is still a considerable demand for the title, where should they go next?

Assassin's Creed's overarching narrative has virtually fallen out of the franchise, and as such, there isn't a great need to allow for a direct connection between all of the individual titles, and as such the creators have the scope to go wherever they choose, and any of these would be the right choice.

The following entries all propose fascinating prospects and each allows for a hypothetical game that would generate an experience, unlike anything that the series has delivered before.

Some are far more out of the standard expectation for Ubisoft's franchise than others, but each proposes a concept that fans would be fortunate to get to explore, and could really open players' eyes to some fascinating places.

10. The Silk Road

The Silk Road was less a specific location and more a historical occurrence that combined many different cultures through trade. Although it doesn't sound too exciting, there is a tonne of potential to be found in this setting.

This trade route connected the east to the west and was a defining cultural moment for many places including China, Korea, Persia, East Africa and Southern Europe - among many others. The trade route was not limited only to silk but also many different products, and even religion. It was a hub of political and cultural significance, and would therefore be a perfect fit for the franchise.

Assassin's Creed has never delved into such a melting-pot of culture like this before, and it would undoubtedly be a challenging area to adapt. Still, if they managed to do well, it would be ground-breaking and allow for a less known period of history to be revealed to the west.

Plus this location would allow The Great Wall of China to be included, which is something players would love to climb, and could feature historical names like Marco Polo and Genghis Khan.
