8. Sid Meier's Civilization V
The Civilization series is legendary, and any avid gamer - console or otherwise - will at some point have experienced the glorious empire-building strategy game. The latest entry to the Civ saga is one of the most-played games on Steam, offering pretty much endless replayability as you guide your people from the stone age all the way through to the near future - engaging in diplomacy, discovering technologies and, of course, going to war. Civ V is the kind of game that console owners can only dream of. Playing strategy games with a gamepad is like trying to cycle using your elbows - futile and foolish. The haptic feedback touchpads on the Steam controller are designed specifically to make the gamepad more effective for shooters and strategy games, and early reports suggest they work brilliantly with Civ V. For the first time, gamers will be able to comfortably bring the addictive turn-based gameplay of this legendary game into the living room (and no, Civilization: Revolution does not count).
