5. Red Dead Redemption's Death-By-Cougar
A lone gunshot sounds out in the wilderness as the last in a horde of bandits slumps to the ground in a pile of shell casings and crumpled cowboy hats. You ease your finger off the trigger and breathe in the fact that youve managed to take on an entire crew by yourself, all in one slow-motion whirlwind of headshots and dive-rolls, and just as the sun sets on your very own hand-crafted moment, you hear the faint sound of a wild cat in the distance. The atmosphere and sound design in this game is amazing you remind yourself, I cant think what the bounty on these guys being alive or dead was thou.. and with that youre cut off from your zenlike state of badassery and one-liners, as quicker than you can say Dead Eye, youve been mercilessly clawed to death by a wandering cougar. Rockstar certainly do like to craft memorable and believable worlds, and even they could not resist revisiting the instant-death that a wandering creature can give the player by including them again in GTA V. However it was with Red Dead that a prideful walk away from a flawless gunfight was first interrupted by the local wildlife deciding to feast on your poncho for lunch.
