10 Stupid Mistakes Video Games TRICKED You Into Making

Don't.hug.

Every gamer knows that feeling of shame and guilt that comes after doing something unbelievably stupid. Maybe you jumped off something tall, hoping to see if a game had fall damage, or you provoked a peaceful NPC without realising they were stronger than you. No matter the case, it's something that players are more than used to.

Still, there's an additional level to this feeling, as you can add a big old cherry of betrayal on top of this shameful sundae. That feeling comes when the game itself tricks you into doing something stupid.

Those who have played video games for a long time have this great ability to understand gaming language and know that you often need to suspend your disbelief. There are times when a game will ask you to do something you'd never do in real life, but you know it will lead to something cool inside this world.

However, the following titles laughed at such a notion. They tested your critical thinking skills by encouraging you to do something that would obviously be a mistake. Despite that, you fell for it hook, line, and sinker.

10. Letting Volo Perform Surgery On You (Baldur's Gate 3)

Would you ever, ever consider letting someone operate on your eye if you weren't 100% certain they knew what they were doing? Hell no. However, you might consider it in a video game as the risk factor is a little more blurry. The impeccable Baldur's Gate 3 decided to take full advantage of that with a hilarious event.

One of BG3's main plot points is your desire to remove the Mind Flayer Tadpole parasite from your brain. Thankfully, the BG series regular Volo seems confident he can help. After saving him from Goblins, he will offer to operate on your eye.

Now, this is obviously a bad idea. You know it. Your followers know it. Hell, Volo probably knows it. Yet, the game is so intent on giving you the option that many can't help themselves.

So, what happens if you push through all the opt-out dialogue choices and let him complete his surgery? Well, he accidentally removes your eye with an ice pick. What did you think would happen?

Thankfully, he replaces it with a fake eye that has a See Invisibility buff. Still, none of this was a wise move on your part.
