10 Survival Horror Video Games You Must Play Before Halloween

9. Resident Evil 7

When it comes to recent, big-budget survival horror games, it doesn't get any better than Resident Evil 7. Giving the classic franchise a soft reboot by introducing a new protagonist, a new gameplay perspective and a brand new set of enemies, the title reinvented the series for the first time since the fourth game hit shelves.

The sequel wasn't great because of what it changed though, but for the features it brought back from the franchise's earlier releases. Trapping you into one single location that was eerily similar to the Spencer Mansion from the original game, Resi 7 put the focus back on finding keys, resource management and solving puzzles to unlock new areas in the environment.

However all of these gameplay features would have meant nothing if the game wasn't scary, and fortunately, for the most part, the title was absolutely terrifying. Especially during the early hours when you were at your most underpowered, the sequel was utterly nerve-wracking.

Also, if the option is available to you, then play it in VR. Just don't come back to shout at me when you can't sleep for the next three weeks.
