10 Terrifying Monsters From Non-Horror Video Games

2. Frostbite Spiders - The Elder Scrolls IV: Skyrim

A lot of people don't like spiders in general, so when Skyrim came along and within minutes chucked a load of terrifying arachnids at you, it was genuinely scary.

The Frostbite Spider is as a scary spider should be - too many legs, too many eyes, massive pincers, weird hairy bits and way too big for its own good. The standard ones you encounter throughout most of the game are bad enough, but there's a few even more massive versions of the horrible things that are truly the stuff of nightmares.

The big ones really like to just drop on you from the ceiling as well, which is even worse. Having the fear of a giant spider around the corner (or occasionally, just wandering around outside!) really makes it all the more tricky for arachnaphobes to wander the sprawling dungeons that exist in Skyrim.

Got arachaphobia and struggle with these when Skyrim was first released? Don't try Skyrim in VR. Seeing them stalking towards you while you feel like you really exist inside the world...well, let's just say the VR headset was removed very, very quickly.
