5. Pyramid Head - Silent Hill 2

The first Silent Hill set the benchmark for psychological horror and caused many a sleepless night for anyone brave enough to venture into the misty town alone, but Silent Hill 2 took the concept to a whole other level and introduced us to one of the most enduringly scary enemies, the disturbing Pyramid Head. Presented as a large, muscular man with an enormous red, pointed head, he has no dialogue, no distinct reason to chase the protagonist, James Sunderland, but he is brimming with outright malevolence.
