20 Upcoming Games That COULD Be Better Than GTA VI
Rockstar just might get toppled by these upcoming bangers.
It goes without saying that there is no upcoming video game more feverishly anticipated than Grand Theft Auto VI, which is basically guaranteed to be the biggest entertainment launch in history.
And while the odds are incredibly high that GTA VI dominates the various Game of the Year awards while being a basically generational blockbuster title, that doesn't mean others won't be challenging its crown.
Because that's certainly the case with these 20 upcoming games, each of which are promising enough that maybe, just maybe, they'll actually manage to beat GTA VI at its own game.
That's a tall order for sure, and yet each of these games has such ludicrous pedigree behind it and such potential to deliver an all-timer banger, that it's entirely possible they outdo the most hyped game of the generation.
It's all conjecture of course until we've played GTA VI for ourselves and gauged just how brilliant it is, but assuming it's an instant classic of the generation, these 20 games will need to shoot for the moon if they have a hope of dethroning it...
20. Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet
Naughty Dog is one of the few developers whose name carries as much cachet and excitement as Rockstar, and so expectations are already through the roof for their new sci-fi action-adventure game Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
Co-directed by Uncharted and The Last of Us veteran Neil Druckmann, the game is set thousands of years in the future and follows a bounty hunter, Jordan A. Mun (Tati Gabrielle), who is stranded on a remote planet populated with deadly robots while seeking out a crime syndicate.
The jaw-dropping reveal trailer did a fantastic job of establishing the style, tone, and world-building of Naughty Dog's new IP, which takes place in an alternate universe where advanced space travel existed by 1986.
The fact that Intergalactic is a rare truly original AAA game from a major developer is enough to make it one of the decade's most anticipated titles, and given Naughty Dog's unimpeachable track record, it also might be one of the decade's best.
And if this somehow isn't enough, the score is being composed by Oscar winners Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is reportedly targeting a 2027 release.
