3. David (The Last Of Us)
The Last of Us has its fair share of horrific moments, yet, amongst all the heartache of lost friends and tragic messages left behind for lost family members, the biggest horror of the game is arguably the very human, very charming, David; leader of a small community that survives Winters by eating ill-fated travellers that pass through their town.
What makes David particularly terrifying is the gradual reveal of his true nature. Initially friendly and welcoming, Ellie's abduction and Joel's meddling reveal his inner beast, culminating in a terrifying game of cat and mouse as David and Ellie compete to hunt and gut the other.
To those gamers that play this battle on Survivor difficulty without listening mode, I can only salute you.
The horror of this event reaches its crescendo with Joel unable to reach Ellie in time, forcing Ellie to kill David herself. All of her fear and anger come gushing out as she repeatedly stabs David again and again. As Joel forces her away, he and the player know that the sweet innocence we all loved about Ellie has just been murdered along with David, and she will never be the same again.
