10 Things Nobody Wants To Admit About Dark Souls 3
7. More Of The Same
Now, more of the same for Dark Souls isn’t a bad thing, because who the hell doesn’t want more of which is ostensibly a great game. The more the better. But when it comes to DS3 it’s a little different. Exploring the world of Lothric feels far too familiar and it all feels like we’ve done it before. Nearly every area has been done before and in some cases, done better.
Farron Keep and Blighttown. Irithyll and Eleum Loyce. The Catacombs of Carthus and the Catacombs. It doesn’t help that some areas are straight up ripped from the first game and while in some cases that can be consider beneficial, like in the case of Anor Londo, in others it’s not. Like when DS3 copied Demon Ruins, an area that can be argued as the worst area of the first game. If you’re going to port areas, make them the good ones.
It feels kind of like FromSoftware were running out of ideas, pulling from their past bank of areas and tying loose lore connections for it to make sense. Which is a crying shame since most people we riding down from Bloodborne and the fresh new world it offered, where visiting an area that reminded you of DS1 game you a sense of nostalgia and didn’t make you say, “Again?”
It did get tedious after the third poison swamp area Dark Souls 3… The third one! In one game!
