The Mortal Kombat development team are famous for their implementation of secrets, easter eggs and hidden content. One of the most bizarre easter eggs in the series is the ability to play pong in arcade versions of Mortal Kombat 2. To trigger the game, two players must endure a total of 250 consecutive matches, upon finishing the 250th match, a strange message will appear. The message reads 'You have reached the outer limits of the tournament. Now you must both face a challenge from your past'. The screen is then occupied with a classic game of pong, with the only difference being a 'toasty' sound bite from MK sound designer Dan Forden which plays after each successful goal. After a player reaches 7 points, the pong will end and cut back to the next normal round of Mortal Kombat.
