10 Things You Didn't Know You Could Do With Your Nintendo Switch
6. Turn It Off (NOT Just Sleep Mode) To Safely Remove SD Cards
A very simple feature to overlook, the Switch promotes that 'mobile phone' mentality of being locked into a cycle of sleep modes and overnight charge cycles, never turning the system off to clear its cache or remove pent-up (extremely rare) static electricity.
To that end, if you're putting the Switch into storage or know you won't be using it for a pronounced amount of time, hit the power button on top of the tablet itself, NOT the Home button on the right Joy-Con, and hold it for five seconds.
Doing so powers the system off completely, giving the Switch some much-needed time to rest, but also means you can remove or swap out SD cards in safety, knowing the console isn't trying to access or cache any part of the data therein.
There are many benefits in terms of sheer longevity to turning off devices that otherwise rely on sleep modes, so make sure to do so whenever feasible.
