Friday the 13th: The Game was largely developed thanks to crowdfunding from platforms Kickstarter and Backerkit, and by the time the game was finally released in mid-2017, it had amassed more than $2 million in funds.

For perspective, this was a higher budget than that of the original 1980 Friday the 13th movie, even adjusted for inflation, and resulted in the game entering the 2018 Gamer's Edition of the Guinness World Records.

It was distinguished for being the most crowdfunded video game based on a movie in history, a title it still holds claim to almost three years later. If nothing else, it was proof of how desperately fans had been craving a quality Friday the 13th game for literally decades.
