10 Times Drinking Went Horribly Wrong In Video Games

5. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater - Aleksandr Leonovitch Granin

In the Metal Gear series, Aleksandr Leonovitch Granin is a Soviet weapons scientist who turns to drink following the rejection of his Metal Gear concept in favour of an alternative ballistic missile system. The events of MGS3 meet a dejected Granin drowning his sorrows in vodka. Playing as Naked Snake, the player is able to convince the scientist to assist in the mission to locate his research rival, going the extra mile by providing the player with keys, directions and a toast to capitalism.

Needless to say, this ends very badly for the impaired Soviet, with suspicion quickly falling on the increasingly unreliable scientist. He is taken by the super-powered Russian intelligence colonel Yevgeny Volgin in order for information to be extracted by way of torture. Given the GRU man's taste for giving out punishment, this swiftly ends in a bloody way, with Granin beaten and electrocuted to death in a barrel.

A high price indeed for a few Smirnoffs in the office.
