10 Times Gaming Developers Brutally Messed With Historical Events
2. The Rise Of King Washington - Assassin's Creed 3
This entire list could have been called '10 Times Assassin's Creed Brutally Messed with Historical Events', because the amount of meddling with human history that occurs across the long running Ubisoft series is obvious. But Leonardo da Vinci providing aid to the Assassins aside, there's one glaringly obvious moment that sits above all the rest.
The Tyranny of King Washington, a fairly long downloadable add-on to Assassin's Creed 3, tells an alternate tale of 18th-century American history involving one of the more popular Presidents in US history, George Washington. Where once he led Patriot forces to victory, forming a state of independence that exists to this day, here Ubisoft transforms Washington into a tyrannical leader. It's all thanks to a Piece of Eden, ancient technology that constantly pops up during the Assassin's Creed series that inevitably leads to bad times for all involved.
You're tasked with hunting down and ending the corrupted King's reign, but the damage has already been done. The United Kingdom of America comes to the fore, Washington's now mad influence passes down to the likes of Thomas Jefferson and Ben Franklin and dogs and cats start living together. Okay, maybe not that last part, but it's a mess of a situation that's thankfully an alternate history lesson.
