10 Times Video Games Killed You IN A CUTSCENE!
5. Wander Gets Obliterated...Twice - Shadow Of The Colossus
Shadow of the Colossus is an especially interesting case of cutscene death because it basically happens twice in the game's climax.
After defeating the final Colossus, protagonist Wander returns to the Shrine of Worship to find his damsel Mono, though as a result of his quest he's become physically corrupted and possessed.
Wander is then met by shaman Lord Emon, who orders one of his men to run Wander through with a sword.
Wander dies what looks to be an excruciating death despite Emon calling it a mercy kill, but the malevolent entity Dormin quickly takes control of Wander's body and mutates into a giant shadowy creature.
The Dormin/Wander hybrid is only destroyed when Emon initiates a whirlwind of light which seemingly consumes them both, apparently giving Wander a second demise.
Though thankfully for Wander, he's resurrected as a horned baby at the game's tail-end, so it isn't all pain and suffering.
