10 Tough-As-Nails Strategy Game Missions That Made You Wave The White Flag
3. Nevergrim - Dungeon Keeper
Dungeon Keeper is, for the most part, happy to let you sit back and build your dungeon at your leisure. Then Nevergrim comes along and lights a quite literal fire under you.
You begin on a featureless island surrounded by a lava lake. Your only defenses against attack are the, disquietingly limited, gold seams required to fund your army. The only other supply is sat slap bang in the middle of the lake – right between you and the hostile keeper.
But it gets worse. The opposing keeper is exceptionally aggressive and, unbeknownst to you, starts with a large lair and twice the amount of gold, allowing him to build bigger, better, and so attract more, and more dangerous, creatures.
The player’s only hope is to be even faster, frantically placing perfectly sized rooms, mining gold, training creatures and grabbing the central gold supply, all the while keeping a wary and likely panicked eye on the enemy keeper.
It is an intense, near manic, balancing act which new players simply won’t be able to manage and will require more than one restart to get right. Evil is good? More like evil is pain.
