10 Unique Fast Travel Secrets You Totally Missed
Did you know of the secret Stargate reference in Just Cause 3?
Fast travel is a pretty simple yet coveted video game mechanic. As more and more games boast gigantic world maps, you want a quick and efficient way to traverse them and explore the parts that you want.
This said, most games utilize fast travel in a really repetitive and boring manner. You open the map, press a button, and then a fade-in or a loading screen automatically takes your character to the desired location.
So what if you wanted to spice things up a little bit? Well, lucky for you, some games include special secret ways of fast travel that offer a more interesting and unique alternative to their traditional main form of fast travel. You'll never hear about them in the tutorial or see them on the fast travel maps, but they are real and ready to spruce up your gameplay with things like atmospheric rides, rare magic abilities, and modes of travel in places you didn't even know existed.
Some of these secret fast travel options work slower than regular fast travel; some can actually speed things up, but regardless of efficiency, if you're looking for more interesting and/or immersive transportation, the following titles have the solution for you!
10. Portals - Just Cause 3
Fast travel is more of an easter egg than an actual mechanic in Just Cause 3, but that only makes it better. As a reference to the science-fiction classic Stargate, the game features three series-accurate portals located on three different edges of the map.
The reference is already pretty neat in and of itself, but what elevates this easter egg to a whole new level is the fact that it also has a practical side.
The panels next to the portals are interactible, and if you know the correct code, 143421, you can actually activate them to instantly teleport from one side of the map to another!
Since there are no actual forms of fast travel in Just Cause 3 (grappling hooks and parachutes excluded), the teleporters can be incredibly useful, on top of being pretty to look at.
If you don't feel like moving across the entire map, you can simply pop into your fancy Stargate teleporter, punch some numbers, and be where you need to be in seconds.
It's a perfect mode of transportation, even if you aren't a huge Stargate fan, or you don't like jumping into strange glowing sci-fi holes in general.
