10 Upcoming 2020 Video Games We're Incredibly Worried About

2. Marvel's Avengers

It's fair to say that the initial gamer and industry reaction to Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics' long-gestating Avengers game, as revealed at E3 earlier this year, wasn't particularly enthusiastic.

Nothing we were shown suggested anything more than a generic, bog-standard action-adventure game, and some iffy character design work sure didn't help either.

As eagerly as this is being mounted as one of 2020's biggest AAA titles, that doesn't really feel reflected at all by the gameplay. For though Marvel's Avengers is a mega-budget live service game, the vibe feels closer to the empty soullessness of, say, Anthem.

The game will surely do gangbusters business regardless of critical reception, but there's no evidence so far that it'll be anything other than a shallow if moderately entertaining superhero romp.

For a game with this much potential in development for this long, that's really not good enough.
