10 Upcoming 2023 Horror Video Games You NEED To Play
4. Silent Hill Ascension
If you ever needed proof that the horror genre is trending upwards, then there is no sign greater than the cold corpse of Silent Hill finally rising from the dead. In October 2022, the Silent Hill Transmission presentation revealed four upcoming titles.
Whilst it seems certainly possible that Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 remake might drop in 2023, we don’t know this for sure. The only project that has a prospective release for this year is the biggest unknown quantity of the bunch: Silent Hill Ascension.
The game’s short trailer and talking heads around it seem to imply that the game will feature ARG elements, with groups of friends working together to make choices and put together a story where “every choice is canon and there is no reset button”.
Everyone involved is keeping the exact details of this one close to their chest but the developers behind it at least inspire some confidence. Behaviour Studio, known for Dead by Daylight, at least has plenty of experience with multiplayer titles and Bad Robot Productions, helmed by JJ Abrams, guarantees high production values.
Ascension will be the cautious first step for the series back into the water and we should remain open-minded about what Silent Hill can be in 2023 and beyond.
