Why It Will Flop: The Sonic franchise has been on the skids for a long time, and while there are those devoted fans who will buy every single release regardless of reviews, this one has an especially gross hook, in that the player can create their own custom "Hero Character" to join the fray.

It's hard not to assume this idea is being needlessly shoehorned into the game in a desperate attempt to reinvigorate the flagging series and lean into Sonic's prominent fanfic community.

Even if it works, though, the game won't be hitting stores until October at the earliest, where it'll have a ton of competition to fend off, and given the likelihood it'll get "mixed reviews", it'll be a hard sell to the casual masses that actually make games successful.
